The type of medical equipment that provides the necessary level of illumination for the operating area, the area of work of a doctor, is called operating lights. Such illumination creates a small amount of shadows, preserves colour reproduction, and does not heat the working area.

Application of medical operating lamps

In modern medicine, high-quality directional light is of great importance. It allows doctors to make a more accurate diagnosis of a disease, perform procedures and operations. Such lamps are installed not only in operating theatres, but also in examination rooms, treatment rooms, and emergency departments. They are used by surgeons and doctors of other specialities whose work involves diagnostics and therapeutic procedures that require good light. They are of two types:

  1. An operating lamp illuminates the table during a surgical operation.
  2. An examination lamp is necessary for examination in the offices of an otolaryngologist, gynaecologist, proctologist, dermatologist, etc.

Requirements for operating lights

There are strict requirements for modern lighting used in medicine that they must meet.

  • - Surgical lamps must be shadowless, i.e. not create shadows from equipment and medical staff.
  • - They must have low reflectivity and not create glare.
  • - They should not allow the illuminated object and doctors to overheat.

Types of surgical lamps

There are several types of surgical lamps:

  • - Ceiling - mounted with special brackets on the ceiling;
  • - Wall-mounted - fixed to the wall in the working area;
  • - Mobile - used as additional lighting for the operating room or the main light in doctors' offices.

Advantages of surgical lights

The equipment is manufactured using a special technology in which a large number of LEDs are placed in the dome at a certain distance and in a strict sequence. The standard diameter of 1 lamp is at least 60 mm. This technology creates a shadowless effect.

The LEDs can be quickly replaced, and some models have additional LEDs built in that switch on automatically in the event of a burnout.

The sealed, streamlined housing allows for disinfection of the equipment without the risk of moisture getting inside.
