What factors affect the delivery time of medical equipment

06 June 2022
"URGENT!", or, at least, "as soon as possible" - this is how expectations from the delivery of medical equipment to an institution look like now. Even in peacetime, many customers did not understand why they had to wait so long. Moreover, why they had to wait now.
We decided to explain what objective factors determine the speed with which new equipment appears in a hospital.
The delivery time of medical equipment is always individual, the specific delivery time is agreed with the customer at the stage of signing the supply contract.
There are many factors that affect the delivery time, including the remoteness of the manufacturer, the production time of the equipment (if it is supplied to order), the workload of the manufacturer's orders, the delivery of equipment from abroad and customs clearance.
During the war, additional factors appeared that affect the delivery time. These include complicated logistics: the equipment does not go directly to Ukraine (ports are blocked, there are no direct flights, etc.), it takes an additional 1-2 days to make payments for critical imports, and there is now more control by financial institutions.
Many popular equipment models (ultrasound machines, anaesthetic and respiratory equipment, patient monitors, endoscopic video systems, surgical tables, resuscitation equipment, etc.) are delivered by the company's specialists to the warehouse. Warehouse items are delivered much faster, the delivery of equipment from the warehouse can take only a few days from the moment of ordering to the start of work of medical institution specialists on the equipment.
The delivery time for customised medical equipment varies from 60 to 90 calendar days in case of air delivery. In case of delivery of technically complex equipment (mobile medical complexes, computer and magnetic resonance imaging scanners, X-ray diagnostic systems and other equipment), the delivery time may increase to 120 days, in some cases longer, as such equipment cannot be delivered by air. In addition, such equipment is produced individually for each institution and requires additional preparation of the premises by the institution itself.
Many hospitals are now helped by volunteers and charitable foundations, which is a very powerful support. However, volunteers often do not know where to buy the necessary equipment in Ukraine, so they start to contact manufacturers themselves, negotiate, prepare the necessary documents and think about logistics. Thus, they lose precious time, when in 80% of cases the necessary equipment is already in stock at official Ukrainian distributors. Therefore, we appeal to everyone - please send the contacts of distributors in Ukraine along with your request for equipment.
